Make your own Advent Wreath

A super easy and affordable guide to a DIY Advent Wreath

The first week of Advent is upon us which means its time to pull out those advent wreaths! Unless you don’t have one (like me!), the other day our Priest announced it was time to get our advent wreaths out. My husband and I looked at each other and thought- we need to buy one of those! We went to the Church gift shop to purchase one and realized it was going to be $40 for a mediocre wreath which lead to of course…THIS POST! This can also be used to make a wreath for anywhere in your home!

I went to hobby lobby the next day and got a basic green wreath for $5 I also picked up some mini Christmas ornaments, and a sprig of fake holly from their flower department. They also have Advent candles for $3 (all of their Christmas stuff is half off)! I had some red ribbon at home already and some candle holders so I knew I could complete the wreath!

Step 1: Supplies

-Basic Wreath

-Ribbon of your choosing

-Mini Ornaments (you can use larger ones if you prefer)

-Holly, Pine Cones, or other Decor of your choosing

-A Hot Glue Gun

-Candle holders

-Advent Candles (3 purple, 1 pink)

You can pick all of this up at Hobby Lobby which is my go to place and all their Christmas stuff is half off which is really nice!

Step 2: Decorating the Wreath

-1) Wrap the ribbon around the wreath very widely (about 4 folds) so that it goes around 1 time completely. Once satisfied with the placement go ahead hot glue either end in place.DSC_0770

-2) Next cut the Holly sprig into a bunch of different pieces. I left mine kind of long because I think its easier to wrap around the wreath like this. I simply use the wire branches to hold it in place. You can also add a touch of hot glue if you’d like.

-3) Finally I glue the ornaments on. I like to twist them so sometimes the top shows and sometimes it doesn’t. I also like to put them in pairs or bunches of three sometimes so they are more visually appealing!

-After completing these 3 easy steps the wreath is done and can really be used for anything: a door, mantle, table, etc!

Step 3: Adding the candles

-I love brass candle holders so I already had these 4 lying around the house ( pick them up at antique shops or estate sales whenever I find them for cheap!) I’ve found most of mine for $1 or $2! But you can use any type of thin candle holder.

-Simply arrange them in a diamond shape inside your wreath and add your advent candles!

It’s as simple as that and under $20!! Happy Wreath Making!
